it's a time to pay attention to the maya. so much stuff has come through tv and the internet but it took a very intentional video for me to learn that mayan ceremony is centered around a sacred fire. these fires were just outlawed at the sacred sites themselves. the place where the fire is to be burned is made like a veve. but with sugar instead of corn meal. candles chocolate flowers rum, all these things are laid down where the fire is to be burned. the 4 directions are central.
i feel a great fatigue. how can we blab on about 2012 for all this time and nowhere on the internet can i find a safe place to go where copal is burning a place that is safe. because the ceremony has already been going on for quite some time and if you are in it while others are not there is danger and sickness. we must open our homes and make them safe ceremonial space for everyone. for some reason the spirits want tobacco. have some with you even if it is just cigarettes.
get comfortable.
your colonized body doesnt know shit.
just relax.
and if you find it was a good thing to do ceremony at this time imagine what those who have known all along have been carrying. how hard it is for them. how hard it is for them to get the simple things together the offerings the wood the right folks who need to be there...imagine how hard it is to hold the knowing and all the pragmatic things at the same time.
learn what they need and try to carry it with you.
pour hot chocolate onto the flames and sing.
the maya understood this new era of climate change. the spirits want to help us. the spirits know how we can live. they need us to do ceremony so let go of any ideas about appropriation or taking or schmaltz. light a fire and make offerings. most of what occurs we dont understand.
Thank you for this. My friend and I planned a ritual today and now we can follow your spare hints for a theme: make a veve with sugar, make a fire, bring chocolate and candles and flowers and rum. We will welcome the new era and pray for healing for our planet and all the people on it.
